Just a tiny teaser


First non-hair particles have been edited in particle mode. It's all still buggy as hell, but I've got a feeling it's going to be quite nice :)

    Yes, that's exactly what this means :) Some hair tools probably can't be used with normal particles but mostly everything should work like with hair particles.

    So animated particles will, after editing, move along the newly combed/puffed/smoothed paths? This is freakin amazing!

    Been planning a donation toward Blender dev ... I think it'll be here. Thanks for your hard work on these tools, jahka!

  6. I don't understand completely what this means. Hair particles are not still editable? at least I think so. What is the change.

    Would it be possible for the particle mode edits to become non-destructive? Biggest problem currently is that as soon as you want to change the parameters, you have to free your edits and start over from scratch.

    Yes, and you will also be able to move the cached points exactly, like the vertices of a mesh in edit mode.

    I'm not exactly sure what you mean. In theory something like that might be possible in simple cases, but what kind of functionality are you after? Give me an example of what you'd like to be possible and how that would be generally usefull.

    Yes it works for hair also, but that's been a feature of particle mode from the start :) You can select "path, point, or tip" editing in particle mode from the same buttons as "vert, edge, face" editing in mesh edit mode. And yes I know we need better icons for these so they're not so hidden!

    another feature I will enjoy making use of in 2.5!

    will we be able to apply modifiers to the particles? It would be useful to be able to animate some modifier values over time to edited particles.

    I'm not surprised ... that it was there all along, and 'hidden'. :\

    I hadn't worked much with particle hair until recently, but this goes to show how great your previous work was - and this version is surpassing it well beyond my expectations.

    I don't really know what you mean with modifiers, but the child options (kink & rough etc.) are some kind of modifiers I guess. There's currently no plans for updating them, but if you have good ideas I'm open to suggestions :)

    Nothing yet in svn, working on the code on all my free time though, so I hope to commit some results soonish.

  17. Will there be a way to turn particle objects into regular objects? Ex. Suzanne filled with a volume grid of cubes. The cubes then use bullet physics.

    Love all the lastest improvements.. Way to go Jahka
