Lack of updates

Hi guys,

as you may have noticed I haven't posted any new stuff recently. The main reason for this is that I'm trying to get my Master's thesis ready (theoretical physics) hopefully before the end of this year, and working on it leaves very little time for fun stuff such as coding particles. Also the biggest thing on my current particles todo-list is probably to bring back reactor particles much better than they were in Blender 2.4x and judging from the initial looks this will be somewhat more difficult that I had thought. It will require a few relatively big changes to the particles code internals, and changes of this magnitude are just not possible with the coding time of max few hours a day. However when I do have the time for this the end result will in addition to much nicer reactor particles for example allow for proper (animateable) emission frequency instead of the not so versatile particles amount parameter.

Anyways just wanted to let everybody know I haven't disappeared anywhere, just busy with my studies.

  4. one question.

are you collaborate with farsthary and wxtools.com ?

I ask just because you're doing similar things :)

  5. MmAaXx: Farsthary is working with chickencoop on particle based fluid simulation and they will send their code to me for review once they're ready. Daniel and I have a long history of collaboration but no current common project.

  6. jahka: Quicky request/question. I'm really missing particle attr in Blender 2.5 for texture assignment. Is this something that is already there and just needs an interface addition or is it not coded?

  7. Nicholas8681: Unfortunately it's not yet coded so it will be a while until that kind of functionality is available in 2.5. The main reason for it not being there yet is that the functionality was quite badly implemented in 2.4x and I want to make it much better. Since in 2.5 "everything" is animateable I think it would be nice if everything in particles could be controlled with textures (and weight painting) as well. So this is definitely on my todo-list, but it will take some time :)

  8. amazing work in particle system in blender - will be in future possible to use internal particle system in blender game engine?

  9. martincg: Thank you, but I'm not too familiar with the game engine code so I can't really say how difficult/easy it would be to make the current particles support it. The only thing I can say is that there are no current plans for such functionality, but I can't predict the future :)

  10. I was wondering what the fundamental problem was that prevented the particle simulation from working inside the game engine. I am interested in this functionality, and am having a student start an investigation on this.
