  1. I'm glad to find a new dev blog. I added your RSS feed to my reader.
Very nice videos and interesting results.

It would be nice to underline what's new and what exists in our blender version.

Thanks for your work, keep going !

  2. Very nice Janne. Will you also be bringing back the path editing particles that was developed pre-hair. I really miss that functionality.

  4. Nice to see particle system being developed! Any chance that we might see interparticle collision of somekind so that the boids wont overlap?

  5. Hannu: It would be nice to have interparticle collisions indeed so at least I'll try to make something like that happen.

  6. Hi,

I'm trying to make a huge morphing birdflock using blender. I'ts working out quite nicely thanks to your tutorial, but there's one problem. My birds are flapping their wings all at the same time, even though I use 'emit from random'. I can't find the solution. Can anyone help? Thanks. By the way,..I'm using Blender 2.49b

This is an unfortunate limitation of the Blender 2.49 (and 2.5 aswell) animation system. All particle dupliobjects share the same animation frame. You can however get around this limitation by duplicating the object multiple times and setting a different animation offset manually for each of the duplicates. You can then group the duplicates and use the particle group visualization instead of the object visualization. I know it's not perfect, but until an actual solution is implemented this is the best solution I can think of.

  8. Thanks a lot Jahka. I was beginning to think it was a bug in the system or an invisible button I overlooked. Such a relief to know it wasn't my incompetence,..haha! Your solution is a good option. I will try it today.

    Thanks
